The Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum (EYFS) covers 7 areas of learning. There are 3 prime areas of learning and development:

  1. Personal, Social and Emotional
  2. Communication and Language
  3. Physical

Additionally, there are 4 specific areas of learning and development:

  1. Literacy
  2. Mathematics
  3. Understanding the World
  4. Expressive Arts and Design

We focus on the prime areas of learning and development until your child is 3 years old and then we will begin to further observe their learning and development in the specific areas alongside the prime areas.

Your child’s keyperson will observe and record development and meet with parents to discuss this regularly.

If you have concerns regarding your child’s learning or development, you can arrange a meeting with their keyperson to discuss how best we can support your child.

Our Learning Commitment:

  • All children have a right to positive learning experiences and high-quality care.
  • Existing knowledge and abilities are the starting point in all children’s learning. What they CAN do, matters first.
  • Learning should be fun. Children learn through play.
  • Children learn how to talk to adults and other children to share their feelings and experiences.
  • Your child’s needs, interests, home language, family, community and culture are an essential part of your child’s learning and development.

Play Experiences are:

  • Suitable for each individual child’s age or stage of development and follow the child’s interests.
  • Built on children’s curiosity, interest and fascination with the world around them.
  • Nurturing confidence, the ability to care for their own needs and encourage new skills.
  • Inclusive and support children with special educational needs.
  • Opportunities for children to make good progress towards the ‘Early Learning Goals’, which are achieved at the end of their reception year.
